During the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, a minor official was sorting out old papers in Yu Lantai (Royal Library). His life should have been as obscure as those dusty bamboo slips, until he accidentally discovered a batch of damaged slips that no one cared about. The words on these slips can accurately predict the future, ranging from a fire in the palace to the Yellow River bursting its banks. The initial panic turned into an inescapable vortex after rescuing people and reversing disasters anonymously. His ability as a "prophet" finally caught the attention of that talented yet suspicious monarch - Emperor Liu Che of the Han Dynasty.
Liu Che regards Gu Xuantong as an auspicious gift from God, or as the most hidden evil spirit. Gu Xuantong was forced to go to the court and accompany the emperor as if walking on thin ice. He must use those fragmented and dangerous "secrets" to seek a glimmer of hope for himself and the world in the stormy waters of the court, while at the same time exploring the true origin of these mysterious slips.
