At three in the morning, I got a call from one of my students' parents.
"Mr. Li, my Ziqing only spent five yuan on her meal card last night. Did she not eat any meat?"
Fighting back my sleepiness, I replied, "Don't worry, Ziqing's mom. I'll look into the details tomorrow."
Half an hour later, she called again.
"It's going to rain tomorrow. Remind my Ziqing to bring an umbrella."
With my eyes barely open, I mumbled my assent.
A few minutes later, my phone rang again.
"And don't forget to tell Ziqing to brush her teeth for a full three minutes and wipe each side of her face at least three times."
I held back my anger and gently suggested, "She's already a senior in high school. We should trust that she can manage some things on her own."
I thought that would be the end of it.
But when I got up, I found over a hundred missed calls on my phone, which I'd put on silent.
