Night Watchman's Journal: My 2,999 Nights of Terror

[Standalone Stories] [Supernatural Thrills] [Horror Folklore]

[Mountain Spirits] [True Cases] [Rural Legends]

There is no overarching plot; each chapter is a standalone story adapted from real folk cases. The strange, gripping events will keep you on edge. Before I decided to write these stories down, they had lain buried in the depths of my memory, like the dusty old wooden trunks in my childhood home’s attic. My family has lived for generations in an unremarkable village at the foot of Changbai Mountain, and my ancestors were all ordinary mountain folk.

Unlike other families, mine has a custom that could be called either a tradition or a curse: keeping the night watch. It is not about standing guard for anyone. Whenever something sinister and inexplicable happens in the village or nearby, one of the elders will rise in the night, light a lamp, and sit quietly until dawn.

I inherited this custom, and in doing so became a witness and chronicler of many strange events. Every story in this journal comes from something that really happened, though most of the names and places have been changed. You need not ask whether they are true. Simply savor the raw terror born from the very bottom of folk life.

These are my Night Watchman’s Notes.
