The Forensic Pathologist and the Detective: The Last One

As Zhao Min opens the chest cavity of the seventh corpse, a cold hand suddenly reaches out from the freezer.

“Don’t be scared. It’s me.” Crime squad captain Chen Mo pulls off his protective mask. “We recovered the victim’s phone. There’s a photo of you on it.”

Her scalpel stops in midair. “Me?”

“The caption says: ‘The last one.’”

At three in the morning, the evidence room suddenly catches fire, and all the evidence is reduced to ashes.

Her superiors order the files sealed, but Chen Mo presses the bloodstained phone into her hand. “You’re all that’s left now.”

Zhao Min turns the phone over and sees a lock-screen photo of herself asleep, shown in profile.

The photo was taken on the snowy night ten years ago when her younger sister disappeared.
