The History of the Song, Liao, Jin, Xia, and Yuan Dynasties

The History of the Song, Liao, Jin, Western Xia, and Yuan Dynasties is one of the representative works of Deng Zhicheng, a renowned Chinese historian. Originally prepared as lecture notes for his courses at Peking University, the book primarily uses a thematic, event-based structure. Drawing on recovered historical records, it surveys the history, institutions, scholarship, literature, customs, and religions of the Song, Liao, Jin, Western Xia, and Yuan dynasties. Supplemented with charts and tables, it is rich in content and broad in scope, tracing the ongoing integration of multiple ethnic groups from the Song through the Yuan.
