Root, Evil

It is a novel set in rural China in the early days of reform and opening up. The story begins in 2023. The 83-year-old billionaire Li Jincai became a vegetative state. In the last days of his life, his consciousness unexpectedly returned to Qilipu Village in 1975. In the process of soul wandering, he re-experienced the legendary life from "Cripple Li" to a business giant, and witnessed the ups and downs of every ordinary person's destiny under the wave of reform and opening up. The tenacious Zhao Di, the stubborn Lai Di, the enterprising Lin Xi, the shrewd Zhang Danian, and the old stick Zhao who was shot while being severely beaten... Everyone is looking for their own way out in the torrent of the times. Through Li Jincai's unique perspective, it shows the struggle and choice, perseverance and transformation of a generation at a turning point in history. This is not only a memoir of a business legend, but also a magnificent picture depicting the transformation of rural China. It explores how everyone finds his or her roots and how to face the "evils" he or she has planted in the great changes of the times. The work depicts the true appearance of rural China in the early days of reform and opening up with delicate brushstrokes, showing the fate of ordinary people in the historical tide. It contains both the passion of personal struggle and the pain of changing times. It is a sincere work that pays tribute to that great era.
