This novel mainly tells the legendary life of a Luzhou young man from a lower-class background, from a thief to a king. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, the world was in chaos. Yang Xingmi (zihuayuan) was from Luzhou. He raised troops in Luzhou, defeated the warlord Sun Ru with a small number of troops, and gradually occupied the Huainan area. Politically, it protects the territory and the people, develops the economy, and avoids large-scale wars in the Jianghuai region; diplomatically, the north resists Zhu Wen and the south allies with Qian Liu to maintain the independence of the separatist regime. Yang Xingmi paid attention to frugality and selected talents. His rule laid the foundation for Southern Wu, one of the later "Ten Kingdoms". He died of illness in 905 and was given the posthumous title of King Wuzhong. His son Yang Pu became emperor and later became Emperor Taizu Wu. The regime he founded ensured the economic and cultural development of the south and became an important transitional force between the Tang and Song Dynasties.
