A Commoner Doesn't Borrow Arrows from a Grass Boat, and Doesn't Cultivate Immortality

I Won’t Borrow Arrows with Straw Boats, and Mortals Don’t Cultivate Immortality

Zhu Geliu is an ordinary man struggling to make ends meet in the mortal world. Every day, he hustles to put food on the table. Tales of cultivators flying through the air, moving mountains, and filling seas sound to him like stories invented by storytellers. They stir nothing in him; he just wants to enjoy his quiet, ordinary life.

But a sudden turn of events sweeps him into a conflict between cultivators. By chance, he boards a fleet of ships bound for the cultivation world. They are filled with strange-looking straw boats bristling with arrows, along with one lifeless-looking scarecrow after another.

As magic treasures shine and spells unleash their power before his eyes, with death closing in again and again, Zhu Geliu finally realizes that cultivation is no distant fantasy. It is a cruel and very real law of the world.

The problem is, he is just a “mortal.” He has no spiritual roots and cannot draw energy into his body, let alone practice immortal arts. But deep down, he has a stubborn streak that refuses to admit defeat. Looking at the straw boats and scarecrows, he suddenly has an idea: he will take a path unlike any other.

Using the knowledge he gained in the mortal world, he studies the construction of the straw boats and the trajectories of the arrows. He even starts figuring out how to “communicate” with the seemingly lifeless scarecrows. In a world filled with immortals and demons, he will use his mortal body to forge his own “straw boat” path to cultivation and prove that “mortals don’t cultivate immortality” is a thing of the past. Now, he, Zhu Geliu, is determined to give it a try!
