The Age of Mystic Spirits: A Youth from Qingshi Town’s Legendary Rise

Qingshi Town lies on the edge of the Cangmang Mountains, where young Lin Feng was born and raised. At sixteen, all he wants is to become a spirit cultivator, draw on the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, and gain the power to move mountains and fill seas. But he was born with a “spiritless body,” his meridians blocked, and is dismissed as a “good-for-nothing.” He endures everyone’s scorn, but never gives up.

One day, the bandits of Black Wind Stronghold storm Qingshi Town and demand that every household hand over ten jin of grain and ten copper coins within three days, or they’ll burn the town down. The one-eyed leader recognizes Lin Feng and mocks him mercilessly. Lin Feng suppresses his anger, his resolve to protect Qingshi Town growing ever stronger.

After the bandits leave, gloom settles over Qingshi Town. Lin Feng’s family is poor, and his parents died long ago, leaving him powerless to meet the demands. But late that night, the mysterious jade pendant left behind by his parents allows him to sense spiritual energy and even clears his meridians. Overjoyed, Lin Feng realizes that years of effort have finally paid off, and begins cultivating in secret.

The next day, Lin Feng is chopping wood in the hills behind town when he digs up a purple herb that looks like a spirit plant. Back in town, he asks Elder Zhang, the only spirit cultivator there, to identify it. The elder tells him it is a Purpleleaf Spirit Herb, valuable for helping spirit apprentices cultivate. Elder Zhang offers to buy it for 120 copper coins and gives Lin Feng a copy of the Basic Body Tempering Art. Lin Feng gladly agrees.

But trouble soon follows. A Cui comes to him in tears and says her father went to chop wood in the hills to gather supplies, only to be beaten by Black Wind Stronghold’s men for trespassing on their territory. Furious, Lin Feng hears how the stronghold has seized the hills, attacked people without cause, and trampled all over Qingshi Town. He decides to go to A Cui’s home. A clash with Black Wind Stronghold is now imminent, and a new chapter begins in Lin Feng’s path as a spirit cultivator and his fight to protect Qingshi Town.
