His Protection, Her Healing

Synopsis of His Protection, Her Healing

A border mission takes an unexpected turn, and special forces soldier Lu Zheng, wounded by gunfire and still smelling of smoke, stumbles into emergency physician Su Wan's examination room. His back remains straight despite the pain; her hands stay steady around the scalpel. In the glow of the emergency room lights, they leave their first impressions on each other's hearts.

He is a protector who moves along the edge of danger. His camouflage has been stained with mud and blood, and he shoulders responsibility for his country and its people, accustomed to hiding his tender side beneath a hard shell. She is a healer who snatches lives from the grip of death. Her white coat has been stained with sweat and tears, and her fingertips bear the weight of life. Yet in his gaze each time he leaves to rejoin his unit, she feels the warmth of a heart beginning to stir.

On leave, he quietly waits outside the hospital for her to finish work, clutching a freshly bought hot milk tea. Before he sets out on a mission, she hands him a note that says "Stay safe," hiding her worry in the words, "I'll wait for you to come back." The scents of gunpowder and disinfectant mingle; steel and tenderness meet at their edges. At last, they understand: the best kind of love is when he protects her in his heart as he guards the lights of countless homes, and when she eases the world's pain while smoothing the furrows in his heart. This journey between camouflage and white coats has no need for grand gestures. They only wish that for the rest of their lives, every "I'm home" will be answered with "I've been here all along."
