The Three Fates: A Modern Interpretation

The Comprehensive Mirror of the Three Lives is considered a cornerstone of traditional Chinese astrology. Written during the Wanli era, it consists of twelve volumes. A monumental work of Ming dynasty astrology, its obscure classical prose and arcane ideas have long intimidated modern readers. The Modern Interpretation of the Comprehensive Mirror of the Three Lives bridges the gap between this classic and the present day.

Breaking away from the confines of superstitious readings, the book uses a scientific perspective to unpack the underlying logic of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches and the interactions of the Five Elements. It combines traditional case studies with modern life, strips away feudal dross, and distills the dialectical idea of “harmony between Heaven and humanity.” The editors neither deify astrological predictions nor present them as absolute, instead emphasizing the empowering principle that “fate is in our own hands.” Readers can appreciate traditional wisdom while learning to approach life planning rationally.

This is more than an introductory book on astrology. It is a key to the essence of traditional Eastern culture.
