[Meishan Hui Shu] Biography of Su Xiaomei

In the long years of Meishan in the Northern Song Dynasty, the story of a legendary woman was passed down orally among the people. She was Su Xiaomei. Although it is difficult to find traces in official history, her talent and wisdom are like bright stars, shining brightly in legends and literary works. Born into the Su family, a scholarly family, Su Xiaomei has been immersed in a strong literary atmosphere since childhood. She is extremely intelligent, good at playing music, chess, calligraphy and painting, and is very good at poetry and couplets. Legend has it that she often discussed knowledge with her father and brothers Su Shi and Su Zhe, and she could always respond wittily to her brothers' challenges and jokes. Su Shi ridiculed her for "three or five steps before going to court, and her forehead first came to the painting hall." She immediately retorted, "Last year, a drop of lovesickness tears have not reached my ears and cheeks yet." This attracted everyone's laughter, and her quick thinking was evident. When it came time to get married, Su Xiaomei chose her husband based on his talents, leaving behind a good story about the "groom with three difficulties". Qin Shaoyou came here because of his fame, and the two reconciled themselves with poetry. Qin Shaoyou skillfully solved all three problems faced by Su Xiaomei, and finally got married. After their marriage, the two played the harp and harp in harmony and sang poems in harmony, which became a romantic legend in the literary world. In this biography, Su Xiaomei is no longer just the unreachable talented woman in the legend, but a lively, flesh-and-blood woman. The book describes her life and emotional world with delicate brushstrokes, showing how she, under the constraints of feudal ethics, relied on her talent and wisdom to shine uniquely and write her own legendary life.
