Seventy Years of Change in Market Regulation

This book offers a panoramic account of how China’s market supervision system has evolved since the founding of the People’s Republic. Through two complementary perspectives, combining shifts in national policy with grassroots practice, it records changes to the country’s market regulation institutions while also portraying, through the daily work and lives of frontline personnel, the aims, scope, policies, and methods of regulation in different historical periods. The story delves into the impact of regulation on economic development and people’s lives, with a particular focus on the hardships endured by grassroots personnel, the misconduct and unhealthy work practices that emerged during regulatory efforts, and the subsequent internal rectification campaigns. It highlights the exploration and achievements of a path to market regulation with Chinese characteristics.
