Master, I Won’t Be Your Substitute Anymore

Gu Heng transmigrates into a book and becomes a disciple of Ling Qing, the revered leader of the immortal sect: a docile, respectful young man who resembles his master’s beloved so closely that he is treated as a substitute, only to meet a tragic end.

Gazing at the face in the mirror, with features seven-tenths like his master’s beloved, Gu Heng sneers. “A substitute? A backup? Whoever wants to follow this script can do it themselves!”

He keeps up a respectful facade while hiding his sharp edge. He cultivates a secret art, befriends allies from the demonic path, and slowly breaks free of his master’s control.

Until, at the immortal sect’s grand gathering, Ling Qing once again tries to cast him into the abyss to protect a keepsake belonging to his beloved.

With one dazzling stroke of his sword, Gu Heng severs their master-disciple bond and leaves the sect. “Master, I’m done playing along with your beloved’s keepsake!”

Later, freed from the shackles of being a substitute, he becomes a supreme sword cultivator whose name resounds across the land.

Meanwhile, the once aloof and proud immortal master watches with reddened eyes, blocking his path before a crowd and calling hoarsely, “A-Heng… come back…”
