After sleeping for a thousand years, Mu Rong Jiangjiang, a zombie from the Northern Song dynasty, awakens in a modern urban village. Bewildered by neon lights, shared bikes, and other modern conveniences, she accidentally crosses paths with Lin Xiaodao, a half-baked Taoist priest. At first, Lin Xiaodao mistakes her for an evil spirit and tries to exorcise her, but as they spend time together, he realizes that although she is a zombie, she means no harm. The two go from adversaries to reluctant housemates, kicking off a series of hilarious episodes as Mu Rong Jiangjiang adjusts to modern life. This is the story’s first act, and the beginning of their bond.
