This Wuxia Crossover Makes Perfect Sense

No System

Just like the title says, without a System, I can only try to make everything plausible. That means the plot can’t move quickly. There are no System missions, and if someone hasn’t provoked or offended you and has a good reputation, you can’t just go after them. Even the origins of martial arts abilities have to make sense. This means the unique plotlines and characters from each novel will change a lot, so it can feel a bit like selling one thing under the guise of another. For example, in a comprehensive martial arts setting, the Zhenyuan Escort Agency couldn’t possibly have such a vast influence based on Lin Yuantu’s reputation alone. If there are more heroes, there have to be more villains and scoundrels, too. The Lin family needs experts. Lin Zhen’nan can be weak in martial arts, as in the original, but Lin Zhongxiong, Lin Pingzhi’s grandfather, needs to be brought to life, and he has to have practiced the Evil-Repelling Sword Manual.

Likewise, the Lin family’s downfall can’t be caused by the Qingcheng Sect alone. Even though I’ve raised the power levels of many martial artists and sects to make things more plausible, the Qingcheng Sect still isn’t strong enough. So I’ll need to set things up for the Demon Cult to take the lead, with the Qingcheng Sect joining in afterward.

Likewise, for the Sun Moon Holy Cult to qualify as a proper Demon Cult, its methods have to be vicious and ruthless. For example, its leaders could obtain part of the Star-Absorbing Art and use martial artists as a source of internal energy. Ordinary cult members could practice a diluted version of the Star-Absorbing Art, the Blood-Draining Art, which lets them draw some internal energy from blood. In this setting, everyone has internal energy, and it’s as essential as blood. That’s why a master dies if they lose all their internal energy. Ordinary people only seem to have none because they haven’t practiced martial arts, so their energy hasn’t manifested. That makes the Sun Moon Holy Cult a textbook Demon Cult.

Well, it really does feel like I’m selling one thing under the guise of another. I’ll give it a try. If people read it, I’ll keep going. If not, then...
