Daoist Master's Livestream: I Cultivate Immortality, but I Urge You to Trust Science

Synopsis

After transmigrating into the body of a Taoist temple priest and getting bound to the "Taoist Knowledge System," Lin Xuan's livestreams took a decidedly unexpected turn. While others refined pills by making hand signs and chanting incantations, he adjusted the heat and pulled out a thermometer to report the readings, explaining that "387.5°C is the ideal temperature for extracting the active ingredients in herbs." While others talked about cultivating immortality through breathing exercises and ascending to heaven, he held up a book on sleep medicine and advised viewers, "Staying up late disrupts melatonin production, which is the real cause of nightmares. Seeing a sleep specialist works better than praying for a talisman."

In his livestream, he could demonstrate that "drawing in qi" was actually diaphragmatic breathing and use a microscope to break down the molecular structure of "elixirs." When viewers grew paranoid, he could also use scientific principles to debunk claims of being haunted. Some criticized him for "neglecting his proper duties and bringing shame on Taoist priests," but many more learned from him how acupressure points correspond to nerve reflexes and came to understand the common ground between traditional health practices and modern science.

Lin Xuan never forgot the message that appeared the day the System bound itself to him: "The Tao is found in daily life, not in delusions." His livestreams had no fantastical effects and promised no miracles, only a Taoist priest with his nose in science books, explaining in the most down-to-earth way that true "immortal cultivation" means cultivating body and mind, and that the true Tao always walks hand in hand with reason.
