After the fall of Peiping, female Western medicine doctor Lin Wan opened a clinic on the outskirts of the city and secretly treated anti-Japanese comrades. She met the injured Eighth Route Army general Gu Chen (who was ordered to come to Peiping to contact the underground party). Lin Wan treated his injuries while Gu Chen helped her deal with the Japanese search. The two fell in love with each other during their cooperation, but they were reported by a traitor and the clinic was besieged. They took the risk to transfer the patriots.
