A Bittersweet Friendship, For Friends Only

Lin Yuan'an spends five years honing himself into the sharpest blade, all so he can cut through the brambles and stand beside Gu Chenzhou. He dares not hope for much. Simply looking up at him and speaking with him has already used up all his luck. Unfortunately, President Gu has always been deeply prejudiced against pretty faces: “A pretty ornament. Fragile and useless.” Lin Yuan'an silently bears this misjudgment, shattering Gu Chenzhou’s arrogance with one flawless achievement after another. When Gu Chenzhou learns about Lin Yuan'an’s tragic past, his cold scrutiny gradually gives way to concern and tenderness. When Gu Chenzhou finally realizes he has fallen for him and confidently assumes he sees Lin Yuan'an’s humble love for what it is, he relishes the feeling of having the upper hand.

Until he crosses the line, only to be met with Lin Yuan'an’s panicked retreat and denial: “President Gu, you’ve misunderstood...”

Only then does Gu Chenzhou realize that the effortless “liking” he feels is, to Lin Yuan'an, a weight heavy enough to crush him. At last, he lowers his head and learns how to truly love a flower blooming in the dust.
