Flute Notes Drift Around the Painted Tower

The Melody of a Flute Around the Painted Tower: The scholar Liu Yunzhou lodges beside a painted tower in the capital, where each day he hears a woman upstairs, Su Diyin, playing the flute. Yunzhou answers her music with poetry, and Diyin gradually grows fond of him. Later, when Yunzhou fails the imperial examination and falls into despair, Diyin gives him money so he can study and try again. The following year, Yunzhou passes with flying colors. He ties a red sash around her flute and marries Diyin, making theirs a celebrated love story.
