A Love Story to Remember

In front of the graffiti wall at their high school, Su Wan stood on tiptoe and painted a sunflower. It became the first mark of their love. Lu Shiyan’s sketchbook was filled with drawings of her, and those pages kept him company through eight years of separation and waiting. When they meet again, the old factory has become an arts and culture park, and the promise they never got to finish putting into words takes root and blooms with time. On their wedding anniversary, he kneels on one knee and repeats his proposal. The ring in the faded velvet box binds not only their past, but the next eighty years they’ll spend together. The birth of their daughter, Niannian, gives their love a gentler continuation.

Their story unfolds through warm family moments. When three-year-old Niannian starts preschool, Lu Shiyan hides outside the gate and secretly wipes away tears. Her backpack is packed with a strawberry comfort blanket and hand-drawn cards, tokens of his clumsy but profound fatherly love. At a weekend family painting day, laughter fills the old factory’s studio. The elders’ chess games, the children’s paintbrushes, and the cheerful chatter of old high school friends turn time into honey. At sunrise by the sea, the three of them embrace beneath the morning sun, finally fulfilling their childhood promise to watch the sea together. The camera captures more than the golden water: it captures the happy ending of “what you hold in your heart will one day come back to you.”

From high school easels to children’s drawing paper, from waiting alone to walking together as a family of three, Su Wan and Lu Shiyan prove that the greatest happiness is watching the people you love grow up and growing old together. The names engraved on their rings, the “Wall of Happiness” covering the studio, and the seaside photo on their phone’s lock screen are all vivid reminders of their life spent side by side, year after year.
