One-on-one romance, both leads are pure in love, Republic of China era, War of Resistance, patriotism
In 1936 Tianjin, fog shrouds the undercurrents. Architect Shen Yanzhi uses the restoration of an ancient temple as a cover, hiding Japanese troop deployment intelligence in his blueprints. The tip of his pen traces not only the curves of the temple eaves, but also codes that could save the country.
Inspector Gu Yanchen investigates a theft at the temple, only to catch Shen Yanzhi slipping a blueprint beneath the base of a Buddha statue in the Scripture Repository. As a pocket watch clatters to the ground, they spot identical family crests. The childhood playmates who once traded doodles have become the most unexpected adversaries.
One hides secrets among the temple’s interlocking beams, while the other holds a gun to the darkness. Yet in each other’s eyes, they recognize a familiar warmth. As the ancient temple’s bells count down, Shen Yanzhi’s escape route leads straight to Gu Yanchen’s gun, while Gu Yanchen finally aims his trigger at the “one of their own” behind him.
Intelligence hidden in the brackets beneath the eaves, pocket-watch signals, and notes tucked into cigarette cases come together to reveal a path to dawn before the search warrant arrives. One restores, the other protects. Amid the flames of war, they set their bearings by each other and become one another’s “load-bearing wall.”
Some promises weigh more than life and death.
