A Commoner’s Ledger of Merit

In the seventh year of Guanghe, a soul from a later age becomes a professional charlatan on the streets of Luoyang.

To make his scams more professional, Zhou Puzhuo makes himself a Merit Ledger. Who could have guessed that one act of giving away food at the risk of his life would turn a fake into a genuine treasure of the Heavenly Dao?

From that point on, things start getting strange...

[Risk your life to feed an orphaned girl, and receive the blessing “Silver Tongue.” From then on, every lie comes with a grain of truth!]

[Outwit corrupt officials and receive the blessing “Smooth Sailing.” A fierce general chases you, but everyone imagines you strolling leisurely as divine punishment rains down!]

[Reveal “heavenly secrets” to save your own skin and receive the blessing “One Extra Lifespan.” Cao Cao is astonished by your genius and hails you as “Zifang reborn, who can calculate the fate of all under heaven!”]

[Borrow the east wind with your blessings, earn immeasurable merit, and establish your place above Sleeping Dragon and Young Phoenix. From then on, everyone under heaven knows your name!]

Cao Cao: “With you by my side, I am like King Wen with the Grand Duke. Yet you’re always trying to run away!”

Liu Bei: “Sir, you are the Han dynasty’s last pillar. I entrust my life and all I possess to you!”

Zhen Mi: “Everyone hails you as a god, but why do I always feel... you’re just desperately trying to survive?”

The people of the realm: “With Sage Zhou, the world can be at peace!”

When merit brings him immortality, Zhou Puzhuo watches generations of remarkable figures pass away. He becomes a living legend, and the loneliest of onlookers.

Looking at the history books describing his life as “a strategist whose plans never failed, whose achievements will endure for ages,” all he wants is to chew on a blade of grass and ask:

“Back then... I just wanted to scam a decent meal!”
