Singularity City: The Fracture

Set in a modern city, the novel follows five protagonists with very different personalities as they live and grow in the wake of an outbreak of strange phenomena known as “urban mind-bending.” Unexplained “thought resonance events” begin occurring across the city, causing ordinary citizens’ thoughts, memories, and information to suddenly intersect in bizarre ways and completely disrupting the established order. Yang Chenlin, a psychological counselor, tries to uncover the truth behind the events. White-collar worker Shen Zhiwei reflects on herself amid cognitive confusion. AI entrepreneur Chen Modi gets caught up in a wave of anomalous technology. Journalist Zhao Yuetang investigates the source, while college student Sun Jiahe launches an online community for people with wild ideas, hoping to find a breakthrough. The multiple storylines develop the characters’ bonds, reveal real-world dilemmas, and portray social change. As the events escalate, the five people’s ideas begin to interfere with one another. Family, work, technology, media, and the internet become intertwined, and the city gradually begins to show signs of both division and integration. In the end, faced with the truth and the choices before them, they must confront the cracks within themselves and the pain of growing up, seeking their own boundaries of understanding and answers.
