The ten stories in Volume One are detective mysteries based primarily on real historical cold cases and bizarre crimes from abroad. Each case stands on its own, with a twisting, unusual plot, yet all explore the complexity of human nature, the depths of desire, and the blurred boundaries of “justice.” The novel focuses not only on the logical deductions and forensic details involved in solving each case, but also delves into the characters’ motives, social circumstances, and psychological roots.
The book features two protagonists investigating in parallel. Through the perspectives of two detectives with very different backgrounds, personalities, and investigative styles, each case is approached from distinct angles and considered in different ways.
This is one of the more attractive works I have seen this year. It is very distinctive, fascinating, and has a unique writing technique. It should not be a work by a domestic writer.
