This is a transmigration novel set during the stalemate phase of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Lin Heng, a young man from the modern era, unexpectedly transmigrates to enemy-occupied territory in North China in 1940. Armed with limited modern knowledge, a tiny pocket space, and a hazy recollection of the broad sweep of history, he is tempered by blood and fire, gradually growing from a bewildered, fearful stranger into an unyielding revolutionary soldier. Along the way, he witnesses the weight of history and the smallness and greatness of the individual.
