A Poor Scholar Rises to the Imperial Court Through the Civil Service Exams

“Jin Yun, I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough…” His sister, left disfigured and consumed by self-doubt.

“Father, I’ve let you down…” His father, working hard all day yet unable to earn enough for a decent meal.

Gu Jinyun, who has transmigrated here, looks at his family, who love him deeply yet live in such humble misery, and swears a blood oath: From now on, as long as I, Gu Jinyun, am here, the sky will never fall! My family is my one untouchable weakness!

To make sure his little sister can eat meat, he turns his hand to a frost-sugar business that brings in a fortune every day!

To make his sister smile again, he vows to find the best doctors in the land and give her a life of splendor!

To keep his parents from suffering humiliation again, he resolutely sets out on the imperial examination path, determined to build the family an unshakable support through illustrious achievements!

Whoever dares touch my family, I’ll make sure they never rise again! Whoever dares block my path, I’ll leave them as nothing but bones!

Others study hard for ten years; he masters The Analects and Mencius in three days. Others see the examination hall as a den of tigers; he treats it as his personal stage, sweeping the three top honors and taking first place as easily as reaching into a bag!

“This young man’s ideas are astonishing, and threaten the very foundations of the state!”

“No! He has the talent to govern the world and the makings of a chief minister!”

Gu Jinyun: “Chief minister? You’re thinking too small!”
