During the Kaiyuan period of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the countries in the Western Regions had good relations with the Tang Dynasty. The eastern section of the Silk Road (Chang'an-Hexi Corridor) was smooth, and the middle section (Western Regions-Central Asia) was occasionally turbulent due to tribal disputes. Hu merchants, Han merchants, and Persian caravans crisscrossed each other, and religions (Buddhism, Islam, and Huoism) and cultures blended in the city-states along the route.
