Adapted from the television series The Moonlit Song
Chu Zhao (male lead) X Xu Qinghuan (original female lead)
Chu Zhao knew he had never been one to meddle in other people's affairs. But what took his breath away at first sight was not the girl's beauty, but the strength of her heart.
When they first met, the girl's parents had been killed in battle, and her only brother had lost an arm. Xu Qinghuan set aside the pride of a noblewoman and knelt for seven months, all to obtain a document that would let her enlist in her brother's place, defend her parents' grand ambitions, and carve out a way forward for herself and her brother.
Chu Zhao had never met a woman like her, and he felt an urge to lend her a hand. Before long, he was falling for her.
When they met again, Xu Qinghuan had already made a name for herself on the battlefield. Her disguise as a man also surprised Chu Zhao, a civil official, for a moment. Xu Qinghuan had always been the model noblewoman, and Chu Zhao had never known she possessed such martial skills. He thought she truly was a tigress born to a military family: gentle and graceful as a woman, yet equipped with the skills to survive without relying on men.
Chu Zhao had no idea why he kept softening toward the woman before him and helping her, time and again. People even seized on it as leverage against him. His one vulnerability was that he had helped Xu Qinghuan disguise herself as a man and enlist in her brother's place. Chu Zhao had always carefully kept his head down and survived, but after Xu Qinghuan appeared, he would rather sacrifice his own future than let anything happen to her.
Chu Zhao knew he had fallen for her, but Xu Qinghuan was so unlike anyone else.
His heart yearned for her. Even if she were poison, he would gladly drink her in.
