In the ancient days of the Shahai Continent, the giants' might once shook the earth, the dwarves' sorcery was inscrutable, and the humans struggled to survive in the cracks between them. On the brink of extinction, a seer awakened among the human race and led them in revolt. They overthrew the dwarves' rule and founded the continent's first unified empire, Shuxia.
But the Shuxia Empire betrayed its founding ideals, indulging in forbidden arts and glorifying slaughter. Four great clans joined forces to end its tyranny, dividing its lands into the four kingdoms of Dongling, Xiqi, Nanzhao, and Beiming. To protect their fledgling nations, the four kingdoms established Yisheng Pavilions throughout their cities, gathering elites to study spiritual power and serve as the foundation of the realm.
A thousand years of war have faded, and legend has become history. In a barren corner of Xiqi, a youth named Jimo Huan, burning with the dream of becoming strong, enters the Yisheng Pavilion, a symbol of glory and power. Born into humble circumstances, he must tread carefully at every step, yet repeatedly finds himself thwarted.
The threads of fate begin to intertwine. Jimo Huan and three other youths find themselves brought together by various twists of fate: Nan Lingpan, the son of a wealthy merchant; Wen Qian, a genius from the kingdom of Dongling; and Helian Tiancheng, a young nobleman from a prominent Beiming family. Though they come from different backgrounds and have sharply contrasting personalities, they stand together through thick and thin. When a baffling cold case arises, the four discover that unseen currents are stirring beneath the Shahai Continent's shifting political landscape. The clues they pursue lead them to a long-sealed forbidden place: the ruins of the ancient Shuxia Empire. Jimo Huan, Nan Lingpan, Helian Tiancheng, and Wen Qian are four youths swept together by the tide of their era. Their friendship, choices, and growth will draw them straight into a maelstrom that threatens the fate of the entire Shahai Continent.
