The Mortician Kissed the Victim

The newly discovered female victim had been neatly cut into twenty-seven pieces. The captain frowned. "A psychopathic killer. A meticulously planned perfect crime."

But I noticed the cuts were unusually smooth. "No. The killer may work in the medical field."

The cold, aloof male detective looked directly at me for the first time. "Why?"

I put on my gloves and pointed to the pubic symphysis. "Here. He avoided every major blood vessel and nerve."

"And..." I lifted the victim's left hand, pointing to her ring finger. "He took the ring, but carefully repaired the marks left by wearing it."

Late that night, he blocked the doorway to my office. "Do you also think he was helping the victim find release?"

I nodded. He suddenly leaned down and sniffed my collar. "What disinfectant do you use?"

"The same brand as the killer."
