The Winds Rise over Shanghai

After the Battle of Shanghai in 1937, the city fell to the Japanese, and various factions fought for control of this “isolated island.” Chen Mo, a bookkeeper from northern Jiangsu, loses his family to the war and comes alone to Shanghai to seek refuge with his older cousin. He hopes to find a quiet job, but his skill at forging accounts and imitating handwriting draws him, by a twist of fate, into the eye of the storm. The Japanese Special Higher Police, the Military Statistics Bureau, and the underground Communist Party all try to recruit him, forcing him to maintain three separate identities. In this battlefield without gunfire, Chen Mo must rely on the wit and caution of an ordinary man to dance on the edge of a blade. One misstep could doom him forever… Yet the battlefield is everywhere in Shanghai. Where will the wind that rose in Shanghai finally die down…?
