Su Jinghong, an international gold-medal operative, dies after being betrayed by her teammate, then transmigrates into the body of the legitimate daughter of Jiangnan's richest family in the Great Jing dynasty. The original owner was forced to drink poisoned wine by her stepmother and pushed into a dry well by her half-sister, dying with a grudge.
Armed with an operative's combat skills, knowledge of pharmacology, and meticulous mind, she climbs out of the dry well, catches a blade with her bare hands and turns it against her assassin, alters fake accounts to expose a mole, sees through her half-sister's poisoned-soup scheme by reading her microexpressions, and even uses ancient materials to make simple crossbows and smoke bombs. Her thunderous revenge shakes the Su family.
While investigating the truth behind the attack on her father's grain boats, she breaks into a villa and unexpectedly discovers Prince Xiao Jue, the regent, in grave danger: someone has drugged him with an aphrodisiac, and the Heart-Eating Gu is acting up. She restrains him as he loses control with her operative's grappling techniques, uses herbs and an antidote pill to ease the poison, and leaves a note saying, "The Liu family set this up." From that moment on, she and the cold, taciturn regent who commands the Black Armor Army are bound together.
One is a legitimate daughter reborn from the flames, bent on revenge. The other is a powerful prince with hidden burdens. To uncover the truth behind her father's death and the old case involving his mother, they form an alliance. She uses her operative's skills to outmaneuver their enemies, altering account books, turning the Imperial Guards to their side, and building a recording device to expose evidence of crimes. He uses his authority to clear their path, cutting down the influence of his maternal relatives, surrounding the rebels, and taking control of the court.
From Jiangnan's merchant houses to the depths of the imperial palace, they face assassins and conspiracies head-on. As they clash amid flashing blades and court intrigue, their feelings slowly grow. In the end, she helps him secure his power and clear his mother's name, while he helps her restore her family to greatness and go wherever she pleases. Together, they become the most fearsome pair in Great Jing: the Regent and the County Princess, ruling the realm side by side and living out a legend of "killing gods when they meet gods, and killing ghosts when they meet ghosts."
The introduction is quite attractive, but the plot is average and the people in it don't feel very smart. The original owner was not unpopular at home, but her stepmother and sister dared to kill her so blatantly. The heroine obviously said that she could help the hero detoxify and even told her her name. However, the hero woke up the next day and asked the heroine what her name was and was shocked that she could detoxify. It was outrageous. The writing was so confusing.
I feel like the author is still a bit underwhelmed. Many things the male and female protagonists do feel too simple and smooth, and they are passed over in a few strokes. Moreover, the content of two chapters is repeated. Obviously everything is over, but the next chapter comes back 🤦
Short and exciting, good-looking and beautiful
