Born in 1986, a Lucky Star for Our Whole Compound

(An ensemble story about neighbors helping one another and standing together.)

Good news: My daughter is a lucky charm who brings prosperity to our family, our neighbors, and our business.

Bad news: Everyone at the factory thinks I’m a freeloader who only got ahead thanks to my daughter’s good luck.

We’d just moved into Fuxing Building when I lost my keys, and our nasty neighbor laughed at me.

I was about to pick the lock when my daughter pointed with her tiny hand. My sworn enemy’s son kicked the keys right out into the open.

(Neighbor: Lin Jianguo sure is lucky!)

Then came the wave of layoffs, and everyone was on edge. I was preparing to lead everyone in saving our livelihoods through production.

But then knockoff goods drove us into a cutthroat competition, and rumors spread everywhere. We were on the brink of collapse.

Before I could do anything, my daughter knocked over an ink bottle, and it inspired my wife to design “ink-wash sweaters” that took the whole city by storm!

(Everyone: The whole Lin family is so lucky!)

After a failed trip south to Pengcheng left me with no money for the journey home, I was getting ready to turn back.

As I worked out how to make a comeback, my daughter gave someone a doll, and it got us an order worth tens of thousands and investment from a Hong Kong businessman!

(Everyone in the world: Lin Jianguo just lies back and wins!)

Only later, when I withstood the pressure to restructure Hongxing Factory, took a firm hand in running it and fired troublemakers, and stood up to international brands at a Hong Kong press conference to defend the reputation of Chinese products, did the people waiting to laugh at me finally go speechless.

I’ll admit my daughter’s luck is out of this world.

But I’m the one who can turn that luck into a pillar of our country and our people: me, Lin Jianguo!
