Shen Lingxi never imagined that an accident would send her tumbling from the pampered young lady she was in the Great Jing Dynasty into the clamor of the modern world. Nor did she expect to crash straight into Lu Jingyuan's arms upon arriving. This man, with his striking features and cool aura, always looks at her as if a fog he can't dispel is hidden in his eyes.
At first, she is a helpless “visitor from ancient times,” while he is a composed “bystander.” Yet whenever she gets into trouble, he quietly bails her out: helping her figure out modern appliances, shielding her from difficult situations, and even making the ancient pastries she longs for appear on the table the very next day. Shen Lingxi thinks it's simply a stranger's kindness, unaware that Lu Jingyuan's heart was thrown into disarray by her lively eyes from the moment they met.
But he has long been accustomed to holding back, using his cool demeanor to conceal his feelings. Then a misunderstanding makes Shen Lingxi think he feels nothing for her but “pity,” and she turns away, trying to learn to live in the modern world without him. Only then does Lu Jingyuan panic. He was never a bystander. From the moment she appeared before him in her elaborate ancient clothes, his heart had already been filled by this young woman who smiles with crinkled eyes over a piece of candy and stands up to protect small animals.
And so the once-composed Mr. Lu begins his awkward, heartfelt pursuit of her: waiting outside her building all night with the sweet cakes she loves, patiently listening to her stories about the Great Jing Dynasty, and even clumsily folding a kite after hearing her mention one. “Lingxi,” he says, clasping her hand, his eyes filled with a sincerity he's never shown before. “I was foolish before and didn't let you see how I feel. From now on, I want to be part of every moment of your life in the modern world. I won't let go again.”
