The Five Immortals of the Northeast: The Black Earth Taoist

In the autumn of 1992, amid the cold rain of Hong Songling in Northeast China, forest ranger Chen Shoulin vanished while patrolling the mountains, leaving behind only half a bloodstained armband. His eighteen-year-old son, Chen Dongsheng, refused to believe the rumors that his father had offended an immortal. He went into the mountains alone to look for him, only to encounter a Yellow Immortal demanding a title deep in the old forest. One careless remark, “You look like a chicken thief,” accidentally offended Grandpa Huang San. Disaster soon struck the family: his mother fell ill, their grain store was robbed, and the woodshed caught fire.
