Guan Haoren, a mountain ranger, led a quiet life patrolling the hills until the anxious village chief disrupted his peace.
The village's Lord Guan Temple suddenly undergoes a strange change: prayers go unanswered, livestock drop dead, whispers sound in the dead of night, and villagers begin suffering bizarre symptoms one after another. Guan Hao descends the mountain to investigate. His keen senses reveal a sinister broken sword hidden in the temple and an ancient spirit perched upon it.
With the situation worsening and the villagers gripped by fear, Guan Hao has no choice but to step forward. He ventures deep into the forest seeking guidance, prepares talismans to ward off evil, and lays traps. Finally, at the turning of yin and yang, he uses himself as bait to lure the spirit into his trap and engages it in a heart-pounding battle at the temple. Though he temporarily purifies the temple and saves the villagers, the escaped spirit and the evil Taoist nun who has yet to show herself still cast a new shadow over these boundless mountains.
