Aerydom was once a world where magic flourished and many races, including humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs, lived side by side. It boasted a brilliant civilization and unwavering faith. But over the past century or two, disputes over resources, clashes of ideology, the abuse of magic, or ancient grudges ignited the Rift War, a conflict that engulfed the entire world. The war dragged on and wreaked immense destruction, sending civilization into decline, decimating the population, splintering nations, and erasing much knowledge. The systems of faith that connected people to the gods also weakened amid war and suffering, and were even abandoned by some.
The world lay in ruins. Cities had become rubble, monsters bred in the wilderness, and trust between the races had shattered. All struggled just to survive.
As the world stood on the brink of collapse, the gods once again turned their compassionate gaze upon it.
