Why Is My Tang Dynasty Nothing Like the One on TV?!

Overworked office drone Li Wei died suddenly after staying up late too many nights in a row. When he opened his eyes again, he had become Li Zhi, emperor of the Tang dynasty! He’d barely warmed the throne before a mountain of troubles came crashing down on him. Were classical Chinese memorials written in some secret code? Were palace rituals an acrobatic routine? And why were all those famous historical figures watching him perform? Worst of all, the future empress Wu Meiniang was scrutinizing her outrageous “husband.”

To stay alive, Li Wei had no choice but to grit his teeth and get to work. Explain court affairs with PowerPoint? Evaluate civil and military officials with KPIs? Try to introduce monogamy in the harem? His modern way of thinking clashed fiercely with Tang realities, causing no end of uproar and laughter. He’d wanted to be a lazy nobody and lie flat, but somehow he kept stumbling into bizarre crises and stumbling his way to greater prestige.

See how a modern soul who only wants to clock out on time struggles to survive in the early Tang court with hot pot, stand-up comedy, and wildly impractical inventions, while steering the glorious Tang dynasty down an unprecedented, laugh-filled path of glorious ruin (?). This working diary of the Heavenly Qaghan is destined to go down in history, in the most hilarious way possible!
