Synopsis of “Raven Feathers and the River of the Dead”
On a winter night in 1991, twin baby girls were born at the clinic in Baihua Village. The healthy older sister became a “lucky one” under the family-planning policy, while the younger sister, Xiao Xiao, who nearly died at birth, was adopted by the Xiao family, a family of her father’s comrade-in-arms.
When Xiao Xiao returned home on a snowy night, her two-year-old brother, Xiao Yi, clumsily wrapped his arms around her. It was the first warmth in her difficult life. As an “invisible” second child, she grew up torn between the warmth of the Xiao family and the secret pull of her birth mother.
The stirrings of adolescence repeatedly met with disappointment. The passionate young man and the gentle confidant alike became fragile duckweed on the River of the Dead. Then, on a snowy day many years later, she met Su Wan, a girl much like herself, who had also endured abandonment and a life of displacement.
Two souls, worn down by fate and bearing similar pain, drew close. At last, in each other’s eyes, they found a home after a lifetime adrift. Like raven feathers falling into the River of the Dead, this is a journey about kindred souls claiming one another.
Recommended. It's a good read. My poor language expression can't express the feeling of this novel.
The author's writing is very good and the story is sincere and touching.
It's pretty good. The front part is quite depressing. The back part is pretty good.
