Gu Daya, also known as Gu Yunshu, has been different from other young girls since childhood. Her head is full of clever ideas, which must have been planted there by the immortals so she could help her family live better!
With her family working hard together and a few recipes bestowed by the immortals, the Gus slowly go from being one of the village’s poorest families to having a little money saved up.
When it’s time for her to marry, she chooses Lu Yan, a scholar from a somewhat poor but close-knit family. After the wedding, Gu Daya’s life doesn’t change much. She simply goes from being busy at the Gu home to being busy at the Lu home.
She helped her birth family prosper, and after marrying, she helps her husband’s family save money too. The villagers all say Gu Daya brings good fortune to her family, and every time, she just smiles without saying a word.
After ten months of pregnancy, when she is struggling through a difficult labor and on the brink of death, a flood of memories suddenly appears in Gu Daya’s mind…
A little bonus scene:
“Mother, Mother! Wanwan picked a giant mushroom! Make chicken and mushroom stew for Wanwan today!” A little girl with two tiny buns on her head and a peach-pink jacket runs into the kitchen, clutching a “giant mushroom.” Her big eyes sparkle as she gazes at Gu Yunshu, her face full of longing.
“Wanwan, Mother has already soaked the mushrooms. I’ll put this one away for now, and we can eat it next time.” Looking at the purple lingzhi in her daughter’s hands, Gu Yunshu is already quite used to it.
