Ten years after nuclear wastewater poured into the sea, the world has completely fallen apart. The ocean is no longer the cradle of life, but a breeding ground for mutation and madness. Radioactive substances and plastic waste have fused in a grotesque way, giving rise to a terrifying energy known as the “Ming Core” and spawning plastic-Ming symbiotes that tear apart everything in their path. Human civilization has retreated to the shattered land, barely surviving amid the ruins of the “Rust Belt.”
Ling Shuo, a “Tidecaller” whose right arm has mutated into a plastic symbiote, works as a guide along the Death Coast in exchange for scarce suppressants, desperately trying to slow the process of his body turning entirely to plastic. Cold and wolf-like, he trusts only the rules of the deal.
A seemingly ordinary, exorbitantly lucrative job binds him to Ailin Na, a female scientist convinced that science can cleanse the world. Their only goal is to find a set of missing research data, but they accidentally open the floodgates to a wave of destruction. The fanatical Ming-Speaking Church, mysterious genesis technology, whispers from the deep sea… forces from every side swarm in like hyenas, intent on tearing them apart.
The truth hidden in the data points straight to the source of the disaster: the forbidden Death Zone known as Ghost Ying. To survive, and to break the shackles of his body's mutation, Ling Shuo has no choice but to join Ailin Na on a perilous journey into the heart of the Ming Core.
In this world humanity destroyed with its own hands, should they do whatever it takes to reclaim their former glory, or embrace this painful evolution and coexist with the abyss?
I read Chapter 11 and found it to be well written. The writing style is very good and the details are well described. However, the progress is a little slow and it should be classified as hard science fiction. The words and actions are not humorous. It is a book that needs to be developed slowly.
