Forming an Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit in Beiping with Li Xiangyang

I wrote this book in the hope of recreating, as faithfully as possible, the realities of the War of Resistance, along with a few aspects of Beijing's social customs before and after the war.

This book expresses an ideal I had as a child. It's a story about an anti-Japanese guerrilla force outsmarting the Japanese. There will never be superpowers or weapons from the future in this book. At most, the Japanese will have what we have. The guerrilla force formed by Comrade Xiangyang will never number more than two hundred, either. If you're looking for a brainless power fantasy about someone hand-building Dongfeng missiles and leading an armored brigade to steamroll Tokyo, this book isn't for you.

I'm a native Beijinger, so I try to imitate Lao She's writing style. As a lifelong avid reader, decades spent reading a vast range of books give me the confidence to write.

I don't expect my book to measure up to Lao She's works. I'll be satisfied if it can hold its own among classic anti-Japanese works such as Railway Guerrillas, Blazing Steel, and Gunshots on the Plains, all beloved old books.

If you'd like to fight the Japanese alongside Comrade Li Xiangyang, come join us! Teacher Zhang welcomes you!
