The Heart of the Maya: Xiao Qiang's Eternal Journey

Maya’s Heart: The Eternal Journey of Xiao Qiang is an epic historical fantasy that spans three thousand years. Through the eyes of a Maya man named Xiao Qiang (K'inich), it tells the magnificent story of the entire Maya civilization, from its birth and golden age to its mysterious decline.

The story begins in the rainforests of Central America in 2000 BCE, where a newborn arrives in a primitive Maya village: Xiao Qiang. From the day he is born, his life is mysteriously prolonged, binding his fate to that of his civilization. We follow in his footsteps from the earliest fields of slash-and-burn maize to magnificent city-states crowned with pyramids, such as Tikal, Palenque, and Copan. We witness the enthronement of sacred kings, bloody ball games, precise calculations of the stars’ movements, and the birth of magnificent art and complex writing.

Xiao Qiang takes on countless roles throughout his life: farmer, priest, scribe, merchant, general, and adviser. He experiences the golden age of the Maya Classic Period firsthand, and feels the mounting pain of dwindling resources, wars between city-states, and environmental changes. When the centers of civilization in the south fall silent, he travels north with the survivors and witnesses the blending and revival of cultures at Chichen Itza and Mayapan. In the end, he must face the greatest challenge of all: the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, bringing steel, horses, and devastating diseases, along with the end of an era.

This is not merely a chronicle of a civilization, but a profound story about life, memory, cultural resilience, and fate.
