On the day of her engagement, Song Cining saw her fiancé getting involved with her stepsister. She was about to slip away quietly when someone called out to her: “Your fiancé is with another woman, and you’re still so calm, Miss Song?!”
She knew the man speaking from across the room: Pei Yanxiu, the current head of the Pei family. She’d heard he was aloof and cold.
Song Cining walked over to him and invited him, “Young Master Pei, would you like to watch the drama unfold with me?”
Her fiancé’s affair with her stepsister was exposed at the engagement banquet, but Song Cining was the one driven out of the Song family.
When they met again, Song Cining asked, “Does what you said last time still stand, Young Master Pei?”
The man looked at her and answered firmly, “Of course.”
And so, Song Cining and Pei Yanxiu registered their marriage.
After the wedding, Song Cining stuck to her principle of “not interfering in each other’s lives and only playing the part when necessary.” She never took the initiative to ask about his affairs, but the man wasn’t happy with that.
One day, Pei Yanxiu went out to meet friends. He came home smelling of alcohol that night, then held Song Cining captive in his arms and begged her humbly, “Ningning, tell me you love me.”
Song Cining thought their marriage was just a transaction in which they each got what they wanted. Then one day, she happened to find an old photo of herself on his phone. Only then did she realize that Pei Yanxiu had secretly been in love with her for so long.
