"White Snake Dumb House" is a classical legendary snake-demon love novel.
The story takes place in Hangzhou City during the Shaoxing Period of the Southern Song Dynasty. The thousand-year-old snake demon Bai Suzhen transformed into a human form and accompanied the green snake Xiaoqing. Bai Suzhen borrowed an umbrella from a mortal named Xu Xian on the Broken Bridge. Xu Xian's kindness and talent moved Bai Suzhen's heart, and they have been secretly in love ever since. This umbrella is called Qinglian Bingdi Umbrella, which seems to be a testimony of fate.
However, snake demon Liu Ruyan regards this relationship as a thorn in his side. Liu Ruyan may have been obstructing Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian because of jealousy, or perhaps because of unknown grudges in the past. She created the epidemic and framed the white snake, causing misunderstanding and gap between the two.
Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian became more and more deeply emotional during all kinds of hardships, but Liu Ruyan's malicious intent never stopped. In the end, Liu Ruyan not only killed Xu Xian, but also killed Bai Suzhen at the entrance of Sanqing Taoist Temple. This story full of twists and turns, love and hatred, against the background of misty Jiangnan, composes a lamentable thousand-year love disaster.
