Ling Feng is a punk who hangs around the secondhand market. He may seem greedy and sharp-tongued, but he secretly has a knack for unconventional occult arts and takes on all kinds of sinister jobs. A night shift at a funeral home leads him to uncover a wicked ritual for crafting corpse puppets. He makes off with a mysterious wooden plaque and crosses paths with Zhang Min, a cool-headed and upright female cultivator.
Soon after, a wealthy businessman offers a hefty reward for help with a haunting at his old home. Following the scent of money, Ling Feng happily heads over, only to find that the evil god statue causing trouble bears the same strange-eye markings as the wooden plaque. One uses brute force to dispel the evil, the other gently guides spirits to the afterlife. With completely opposite principles, the two are forced to work together.
The incident is temporarily resolved, but a hidden curse within Ling Feng is quietly triggered when he uses his powers. More wooden plaques bearing the strange-eye marking keep appearing, pointing to a much bigger conspiracy. Greedy and allergic to trouble, Ling Feng had planned to slip away, but realizes he is already in too deep. He has no choice but to team up with the dogged Zhang Min: one relies on clever tricks and unconventional methods, while the other provides support with orthodox arts, as they plunge into an even deeper mystery...
