Centered on the war between the Witches and the Demons, the story unfolds as a grand prehistoric epic. It opens with the Ten Golden Crows running amok. Their ten suns scorch the primordial world into a wasteland, and though Hou Yi shoots down nine of them, this only fuels the hatred between the Witches and the Demons. Kuafu chases the sun and becomes a forest, while Gonggong rams Mount Buzhou in a rage. The Twelve Ancestral Witches summon Pangu's true form, and Donghuang Taiyi activates the Zhou Tian Star Formation. Their deadly battle brings down the pillar of heaven and splits the sky, plunging the primordial world into a world-ending crisis.
Nuwa repairs the sky, and Hongjun establishes the order of “the Demons rule the heavens, the Witches rule the earth,” temporarily ending the fighting. But the hatred remains. Patriarch Minghe seizes the chaos to expand the Sea of Blood, and a monster called “Prison” is born on the battlefield. Its power is terrifying, and even the Witches and Demons, forced to join hands, struggle to defeat it. Only the sacrifice of a new generation of heroes allows “Prison” to be sealed for a time.
In the final battle between the Witches and the Demons, Dijun, Donghuang Taiyi, and several Ancestral Witches perish together. The primordial world shatters into the Four Great Continents, the Witches and Demons fade from history, and humanity rises on the strength of its destiny. Later, the Investiture of the Gods calamity begins, and the Three Teachings fight over destiny, once again leaving the primordial world scarred. Eventually, the Heavenly Court is rebuilt and the underworld put in order. Humanity embarks on a new chapter of civilization, but the hatred and fear symbolized by “Prison” continue to lurk in the hearts of living beings, foreshadowing a crisis for the primordial world.
