At the edge of the Central-South Plain, where mountains meet rivers, lies Sanxing Village. Formerly known as “Three Surnames Village,” it was named for the Niu, Ma, and Yang families who settled there, and renamed after 1949. Surrounded by mountains and water, the village relies mainly on farming, gradually developing orchards and livestock raising in later years. Yang Niu, a reborn woman, was a doctoral graduate of an agricultural college in her previous life, born in 1990. She died in a mudslide in the 2020s and was reborn as Yang Niu, a girl born in 1956 in Sanxing Village, whose formal name is Yang Jiajia. Following Yang Niu’s growth and experiences, the story traces Sanxing Village’s changes from 1960 to the early 21st century, depicting the grudges between the three families and the villagers’ struggle to survive and make a better life. Ultimately, it shows how the village prospered through hard work and ingenuity amid the tides of change.
