"Beacon Smoke at Jinling" is based on the Battle of Jingnan in the fourth year of Jianwen (1402) of the Ming Dynasty. It tells the historical story of King Zhu Di of Yan who rebelled against Emperor Jianwen and finally invaded Nanjing to seize the throne. Through the perspectives of Zhu Di, Jianwen Emperor Zhu Yunwen, counselor Daoyan Monk, and general Zhang Yu, the novel shows the intricate power game, human struggle, and historical choices behind this war that changed the fate of the Ming Dynasty.
